Over a decade ago I started my Salesforce path as an Accidental Admin. Back in those days, Trailhead didn’t exist and the awesome Community was still at its infant stages. Learning was on the job by other Salesforce team members.
Fast forward to present time and I have learned that I made many mistakes as an admin. Not only that, but I have come across many mistakes during my time at clients whilst supporting them with deployment and user upskilling.
One of the great things I love about the Salesforce community is the enormous support network we have. I have not seen it in any other industry I have worked in. But one of the things we don’t really talk about is our mistakes.
I understand it is difficult to admit mistakes and share them with others. But it is a key way to learn for many people as well as making sure no others make these mistakes. During London Calling 2021 I gave a talk about Admin Mistakes with lots of positive feedback afterwards. My willingness to share got me thinking that there had to be a better way to share my experience. I know over a year is a long time to write an e-book, but pandamic and subsequent work and life got in the way.
But as things have calmed down, I have finally managed to put an e-book together with some of the biggest mistakes I have made myself or come across as a consultant. I will talk about profiles, sandbox, user records, back ups and many more.
Let me know what you think of them, if you have made them yourself, or if you want to add to the list.
