Training Kit

This week will see me deliver training in London. That means going on the tube every day to the client, carrying a heavy bag with equipment. I thought I share with you what is in my bag. This kit has been fine-tuned over the years and probably will keep developing with shifting technology.

But for now, I am carrying the following:

  • Laptop, with adaptor and extra long charging cables
  • iPad, to use for presenter notes. I like to walk around the room and reduce paper. I now create PDFs of my presentations and can read the presenter notes from the iPad when required. As I give bespoke client training, with every training being different, it is difficult to memorise all the ins and outs of each training. Hence speaker notes are crucial and I don’t really want to carry an additional 100+ sheets of paper in the bag!
  • Remote control, to be able to change slides when I am away from the desk. Recently I have bought an awesome new remote.
First of all it doesn’t need replaceable batteries. It has like an internal big battery you can charge. The charge will last up to weeks depending how much you use it.
Second, it is multi functional. Not only is it a clicker for the pages, you can choose what other actions you want it to have. You can choose for laser, make it a actual mouse pointer (very useful if you want to click live through Salesforce) or click to magnify (brilliant zoom function). I have used many different remotes and clickers in the past and so far this is the best one I have used.
  • Strepsils / Tyrozets, anything to keep the throat smooth. Of course tea with honey and lemon in the winter and water with lemon in the summer can always be found on my desk!
  • Screen connector, I have one that can be used to connect the laptop to 3 different types of screens. Saves carrying multiple connectors.
  • iPhone connector, I use this one when I want to show the Salesforce App live on the screen. It is not the most perfect connector and I am still looking for a better one. But it works, for now!

Of course in addition to this, I have several other tech support items in the bag, like a mouse, 4G connector, iPhone charging cables, headset and headset chargers, batteries etc.
And that is just all the tech stuff.

Most days, in the bag you can also find energy bars, waterbottle, newspaper, umbrella and other little bits and bobs.

I have not found a way yet to reduce the bag content. I wonder if you have. Let me know in the comments if you have any interesting items in your bag to support your training.
