Superbadge Unmanaged Package Installation

Superbadges are a great way to test your knowledge on Salesforce. You unlock them by completing relevant modules first.

Once you have unlocked a superbadge, you have to take the following actions:

First, You have to create a new dedicated org to ensure you have no other functionality that might stop actions in the superbadge. To do this, on the superbadge, go to the hands-on org section. On the drop down you can click “Create a Trailhead Playground”. You cannot have more then 10 orgs linked to your name, so you might need to delete some before you can do this.
The creation might take a couple of minutes, so get a drink in the meantime.
I would advice you, that once you have created your org, you go to your Hands-On Org page in Trailhead and label your org to the superbadge name. That way you can easily differentiate between the orgs.

Next you have to install some unmanaged package. This can be quite tricky to do, especially with multiple playgrounds, so the easiest to do this, is as followed:

  • Open a private / incognito browser window
  • Login to Trailhead with your normal credentials
  • Go to your superbadge and launch your Playground (should open in a separate tab)
  • Click on the Install Unmanaged Package
  • Copy your Playground Org’s URL (Ex.: https://www.cunning-goat-xxxxxx-dev-ed.lightning.force.com/ Leave the rest).
  • Go back to the Unmanaged Package tab and change the URL as followed; replace the URL details before packagingSetUpUI with the playground URL.
  • This means your unmanaged package URL should be something like:
    https://www.cunning-goat-xxxxxx-dev-ed.lightning.force.com/packagingSetupUI/ipLanding.app?xxxxxx
  • Install your package as indicated

It takes a bit of practice but it is the only way you can install packages onto multiple playgrounds

Now the basics are out of the way, let’s have fun with some superbadges!
