Trailhead Go!

During Dreamforce 2019 Salesforce officialy introduced the Trailhead Go App. This means we can now do badges, modules and learning everywhere, all from our phones or tablets.

Having used the app for a while, both at home and during my travels, I thought I write up a short review of the good and bad of the app.

First of all the good:

  • friendly interface and easy to use
  • great for non hands on modules, i.e. quiz only modules
  • dark mode, although called in the app campfire setting, makes it easy on the eyes

So now the not so good:

  • iOS only for the moment, so those with an Andriod app will have to wait for while.
  • When you look at your profile, there is no list of your certs on there. Hopefully this comes soon as it can be handy in interviews to show off what you have achieved
  • For any modules where you have to do hands on stuff, you will have to go to browser mode. Makes sense, but as most badges are hands on, mit makes the use of the app a little less needed
  • the search is not the greatest. For example I tried several times to look for the monthly content release badges, and they just won’t come up

Overall, the idea of the app is great and I can understand why they have launched it. However for the moment, for me the use is rather limited. I actually only use it for the following:

  1. I have created on my browser version a Trailmix in which I drop in any quiz only badges. I keep those then for mobile time. What would really help if there was an easy way to find quiz only badges in Trailhead. Maybe tag them all would be really helpful or give them a TrailheadGo tag.
  2. I use it as a secondary device. For some badges it is easier to have a reading screen and a working screen. I don’t always have access to a big second screen, so in those instances I use the mobile app to read what I need to do and use the laptop to complete and check on the badge.

For those with Andriod phones, who are really looking forward to this app. I think at this moment in time, you don’t really miss a lot. Hopefully over the coming months some more development will take place and we get a more full experience. Until then, it is a nice a to have app but with limited time spend on it.
